Ten Minutes a Year can Double your
Young Tree's Growth Rate and can
help you avoid expensive arborist costs
Results of Incorrectly Pruning
a Young Tree.
This is the shape of a typical Modesto Ash
tree in the Arden area. You can see where
this tree splits into 4 limbs at one point 8
feet off the ground and lacks on main trunk.
This is because it was topped when it was
young.  These sharp, V joints are weak
points, and it doesn’t take much
imagination to see where the tree is going
to split in two and a major limb will break
off as it weakens with age.

This tree has surface roots. This
problem can often be avoided by deep
watering and not relying on surface
lawn sprinkler watering.

Like a baby, the patterns set in the first few years of a
young tree’s life are with it forever.

But studies show a few basic tree care steps that during its first
winters will not only help it develop a good limb structure that
requires less expensive arborist care later, but also doubles
    growth rates.

So, we ask you to assure your tree grows up right by either:

    A.   Attend a “Tree Care Day” class at Arden Park Rec Center
at 1000 La Sierra Drive on pruning and other technique. The
2006 classes are Sunday, February 12 at 9 am and 1 pm.
Attend a short class to learn how to prune and care for your
trees- then weed, renew the mulch and prune your own trees
    and help your neighbors.
    OR

    B.   Authorizing trained volunteers to revitalize your trees
with  mulch, review its staking, and do needed pruning of your
tree. Let us know you want us to  handle this, sign up at the
ArdenTrees.Org website, or  call and leave your address at 24
hr Tree Message line 924-8733 x112.
