Arden Street Tree Program
The first street trees were planted in Arden Park over 50
years ago when the neighborhood was first built. They
have long provided welcome shade, beauty and
enjoyment and have been one of the factors in the Park's
desirability as a place to live. Unfortunately most of these
original trees are rapidly disappearing as they are cut
down or fade away due to old age and disease. In fact,
some Arden Park streets are now almost completely
barren of these original trees and sadly no trees have
been planted to replace them.
With a desire to return to the times when all our
neighborhood streets were bordered with large, stately
trees, the Arden Street Tree Program was started in 2002.
Under the leadership of Alan Hirsch, an Arden Park
resident, the goal was no less than to return the Arden
area's streets to their past tree-lined glory. Over the past
5 years, with the help of Steve Schweigerdt of the
Sacramento Tree Foundation and through the dedication
and hard work of many Arden Area residents and other
volunteer organizations, the Arden Area has undertaken a
major replanting effort.
Since the program's inception over 1000 trees have been
replanted. But we need to plant many more. Your
support, whether planting a free tree on your own
property or helping someone who is physically unable to
plant their free tree, is vital to the program's continuing
success. Every individual can make a difference.
Please join the effort to plant & care for free trees in Arden
Park to keep our streets beautiful, shady and cool for
generations to come.
